16 teams for maiden Fada’s Unity cup competition

The inaugural Hon. Femi Fadairo Football Competition tagged “Fada’s Unity Cup Competition” on Monday commenced with football matches amongst participating teams.

A total of 16 teams will be participating in the competition holding from Monday to Sunday at the Football field of Aquinas College, Akure.

In the first match of the competition, M-Max FC defeated Aso FC 4-3 on penalties after playing goalless draw, while Ijapo Estate Eagles FA won Danfold FC 3-0 on penalties after playing draw too.

Earlier, in his address, the Sponsor of the Competition, Hon. Femi Dennis Fadairo, who is the SSA to Governor Aiyedatiwa on Community Engagement, Central said it was part of his efforts to give back to the Grassroots.

Fadairo said it was also part of his efforts to support government in its drive to create employment and get the youths off the streets.

He urged all participating teams to be disciplined and do nothing that would bring disrepute to the name of the competition adding that the success of the first edition would determine the second edition.

“I am delighted to sponsor this tournament at this time, to help boost sports at the Grassroots and help nurture/promote talents,” he said.

The state Coordinator of the event, Mr Niyi Omojowo appreciated the sponsor for sponsoring the grassroots football tournament.

Omojowo said if the state had many people sponsoring tournaments like Fadairo in the state, sports would have developed more in the state.

The final of the competition comes up on Sunday at Aquinas College.
