9th NYG: Team Ondo Clinches Gold, Bronze in Gymnastics

Team Ondo has claimed its first gold medal in the female gymnastics team event and a bronze in the individual vault horse at the ongoing 9th National Youth Games (NYG), taking place at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State.

The medal-winning team comprised Taye Yusuf, Tioluwa Akinseye, Victoria Frank, Opeoluwa Falaye, Grace Ademuwagun, and Yusuf Kehinde—athletes who opened the medal tally for Ondo State in style.

In addition to the team’s gold, Frank Opeoluwa secured a bronze medal in the vault horse event, bringing the state’s total to two medals in gymnastics so far.

Speaking with journalists after the event, Ondo State’s head coach, Kemi Ademuwagun, expressed gratitude for the victories, attributing them to hard work and divine grace.

“This achievement is not by my own making but by the grace of God Almighty and the strong understanding between me and my athletes,” she said. “I’m grateful to God and proud of my athletes for adhering to instructions and competing within the rules.”

Looking ahead, Coach Ademuwagun expressed confidence that more medals are within reach as the games continue.

The General Manager of the Ondo State Sports Council, Mr. Sunday Fagite, also commended the athletes and their coaches for making the state proud. He encouraged other athletes to remain focused and work hard to secure podium finishes.
