Ijapo Ages Stars FC triumph in opener, as sponsor lauds team’s spirit

Participating teams in the ongoing second Adu Unity Football Competition for Aiyedatiwa have been commended for their scintillating performances.

Football enthusiast, Dr. Olumuyiwa Adu (CUBANA) expressed this at the end of the opening game of the competition held at the Ijapo Housing field in Akure, the state capital, on Thursday.

Adu, represented by Reverend Oluwatayo Abisola, the Special Assistant to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Mobilisation, said both teams displayed impressive football skills to the admiration of spectators.

He particularly praised Ijapo Ages Stars FC for their composure and skillful play throughout the game.

He urged all participating teams to keep up the good work and continue to play according to the rules of the game.

Adu noted that he was pleased with what he had seen at the opening match, stating, “I can say boldly that there is a wealth of talent in Ondo State.”

He added that the purpose of the competition was to scout and develop talented players within Ondo State and beyond.

According to him, numerous football agents were present, watching the players.

“Any player who performs well will be picked up, and before you know it, they could be playing abroad,” he said.

The Technical Director of Ijapo Ages Stars FC, Oleleke Karimu, commended Dr. Olumuyiwa Adu for his vision to develop grassroots football players.

Karimu said, that, as defending champions, his team was under intense pressure but thanked God for their ability to overcome the challenges.

He described Adu as a man of his word, saying that the sponsor had promised last year that the competition would become an annual event, a promise he has now fulfilled.

In his words, “It’s rare to see someone as busy as Adu, both politically and otherwise, show such interest in sponsoring a competition like this.

“We appreciate him for his support.”

“The first edition was fantastic, with many souvenirs for the participating teams, and this edition follows the same path.

“We can only thank him even more,” he said.

The defending champions, Ijapo Ages Stars FC, defeated Right Hand FC 2-0 in the opening match of the competition’s second edition.
