Aiyedatiwa’s Vision Propels Ondo State to National Primary School Games Success.

Towards ensuring that Ondo State takes a leading role in sports and youth development, the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, since assuming office in December 2023, has set machinery in motion for the mass discovery of hidden sports talents at the grassroots.

He has equally demonstrated personal love by approving and releasing funds for high performers and potential headliners to attend regional and national events in the country.

In less than a year that Aiyedatiwa got into office, as the State helmsman, his eagle eyes have noted the abundance of gifted youngsters and has followed it up with consequent action, which have begun to yield positive results.

On November 14, 2024 pupils from Ondo State public primary schools were confirmed the best in sports following their remarkable showing at the maiden Basic Education School Sports (BESS) competition in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Ondo State recorded a whopping 9 gold medal haul to beat second placed Akwa Ibom, host FCT, Lagos and others from all six geo-political zones in the country.

The Sunshine State were decorated 31 times with 9 gold, 13 silver and 9 bronze medals, while their closest challenger Akwa Ibom clinched 6 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals.

Buoyed by the backing of the government, the youngsters won medals in Ayo Olopon, Badminton, Table Tennis, Track and Field. They also triumphed and exhibited cerebral capacity in Scrabble and Chess.

Governor Aiyedatiwa’s support lies not only within the meticulous vision he has for the toddlers but also to pragmatically key them into their glorious future whether in Ondo State or elsewhere.

At the last National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, an Ondo State athlete Olumide Ibikunle emerged the fastest at the competition, adding to Team Ondo’s 17 medals.

In the same vein, Sunshine Stars U-19 FC have won 6 out of 7 ties to strengthen their aspiration for the maiden N-Youth League and expose their players for international recognition by European clubs.

Significantly, the former football player and administrator, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has a taste for success and a clear vision of glory which is gradually manifesting and being enjoyed in Ondo State.
