Ajibade Hits Target as Rivers Angels Clinch 10th President Federation Cup Women’s Title

Former Sunshine Queens captain, Taiwo Ajibade, starred as Rivers Angels successfully defended their President Federation Cup women’s title with a dramatic victory over Nasarawa Amazons. The match, held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, ended 2–2 in regulation time before Rivers Angels triumphed 4–2 in a penalty shootout.

Ajibade, who joined the Port Harcourt-based side after the 2024/25 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) season, played a pivotal role in their comeback.

Nasarawa Amazons had taken control early in the game, with Olusola Shobowale netting twice in the first half to give her side a commanding 2–0 lead.

But Rivers Angels showed resilience and determination after the break. Ajibade reignited their hopes, calmly slotting home from a well-placed square pass to reduce the deficit. Moments later, Taiwo Afolabi unleashed a stunning strike to level the scoreline at 2–2.

With no extra time, the game proceeded straight to penalties. Rivers Angels kept their nerve, converting four of their spot-kicks, while Nasarawa Amazons managed only two.

The victory sealed Rivers Angels’ 10th President Federation Cup title, further cementing their legacy as one of the most successful women’s football clubs in Nigeria.
