LGSC Trains Workers On Modern Techniques In Engineering Service 

Ondo State government has said it will continue to prioritize workers welfare, saying it will not relent until local government system in the state becomes a reference point and leading light to other local governments in the country.

Chairman of Ondo State local service commission, Mr Femi Idris stated this at a 1-day capacity building workshop with the theme: “Modern Techniques in Engineering Service, The Roles of Engineers in sustainable development and safety” organised for officers in the works department in the 18 local governments.

The chairman represented by Commissioner 1 in charge of training and manpower development in the commission, Mr Ifedayo Iji added that the workshop underscore the commission’s resolve to emplace an engineering system devoid of quacking and substandard practice.

Idris said the commission is aware of the important role and position Engineers occupy in the society, saying their actions or inaction will inadvertently translate to societal development or otherwise.

According to the chairman, with the creation of the 33 LCDAs ,a lot of challenges will stir us at the face and as practitioners in developmental activities you cannot but be at your best”.

In his welcome address, Administrative secretary ,local government service commission, Dr Bayo Ilawole urged the participants to see their inclusion and presence at the workshop as an avenue to chart a new course in the works department. 

Ilawole added that knowledge acquired at the workshop should be put in use at their various local governments  in the preparation of their annual budget estimate.

He said: “You will agree with me that the recurrent collapse of building in our nation of recently call for collective concerns. No doubt that the collapse of building is occasioned by non – challantant attitude of the practitioners and the desire to cut corners .

The guest speakers, Engr. Aladejana Dada, Engr.  Stephen Olugbenga Omoniyi, Stephen Olugbenga Bolawole  and Engr. Adeyeye Ebenezer itemized the challenges facing engineering practice in Nigeria which includes:poor funding of institution, inadequate equipment,students’ population explosion without commensurate facilities,lack of high – quality man power in terms of trainers or teacher, poor attitude of employers and many others.

Some of the participants who spoke with newsmen promised they will put in practice all they  have been thought in their respective offices.
