Two aggrieved stakeholders, Jephthar Akinboboye and Kayode Adeyemi, have officially withdrawn their lawsuit challenging the conduct and outcome of the recently concluded Ondo State Football Association (FA) election.
The duo made their decision known in an affidavit sworn at the Court of Appeal, Akure Division, on Wednesday, June 25, and made available to journalists on Thursday in Akure.
In the affidavit, the litigants explained that they were the claimants in Suit No. HC/OD/48/CIV/2025, filed against the Electoral Committee of the Ondo State FA and ten others, despite not being contestants in the election. They, however, disclosed that after careful reconsideration, they have chosen to discontinue the case.
“Our decision to withdraw the suit is based on our personal convictions and not as a result of fear, coercion, inducement, or harassment of any kind,” the affidavit read.
The FA elections, held a few months ago under the chairmanship of Barr. Olusola Oke, saw Otunba Sunday Dele-Ajayi emerge victorious over Otunba Sunday Ologbese, thereby retaining his position as Chairman of the Ondo FA.
The litigants further clarified that they were unable to file a formal notice of discontinuance at the Ondo State High Court due to the ongoing strike by judiciary workers. As such, the affidavit serves as a formal declaration of their intent to withdraw the case and foster peace in the football community.
“This affidavit is filed to make our intention clear to all stakeholders in football development in Ondo State and Nigeria at large.”
They concluded by stating that their move is without prejudice to any future actions that may be taken once the strike ends, but reiterated that their current step is in good faith and in the interest of peace and unity in Ondo State football.
