Ondo State All Stars Competition, Reunion of Ex-players – Organising Committee Chair

The Chairman, organising committee  of the second edition of Ondo State All-Stars competition, Mr Akindele Akinrinmade has said the purpose of the tourney was to bring ex- players together to reminiscence on their old playing days.

He said the aim of the tourney was to bring old players together to reminiscence on  their old playing days and display their old football artistry to keep fit. This he said would serve as a means of motivation to the upcoming stars.

In a chat with newsmen in Akure, the Chairman added that  the retired players that have played the game to high level of their career needed to come together once in a year to play and mingle together for the love of the game.

He said; “The whole idea behind the competition was to bring old play mates across the state and beyond together,  some people are coming from outside the state to be part of this competition.”

He added that eight teams are participating in the competition, explained  that the teams were divide into four each in a group which he said would be played in round – robin format.

According to him, “two will qualify from each group and they will go straight to play in semi final and winners will clash in final.”

“The competition is not a must win at all cost, our expectations from participating teams are to play good football ,show class that they are professionals, they should show the upcoming players what it takes to be a veteran.”

“Football is a game of contact , but we plead with all teams to play safely without injury, because it will be difficult or long to heal and adult injury, we appeal for injury free competition.”

He advised participating teams in the tourney  to abide by the rules and regulations of the competition.

The week two match between Alagbaka All-Stars defeated Afunbiowo All-Stars 3-0 in the first match of the week two of the competition ,while Ijapo Ages All-Stars strolled past Lawyers NBA All -Stars with a goal to  nill  in the second match. 

Meanwhile former Ondo State Deputy Governor, Ambassador Omolade Oluwateru had penultimate week kicked off the  opening match of the competition between defending champion, Ekimokun All Stars and Akure Veterans.

Ekimogun All -Stars trashed Akure Veterans 2-0 while Ondo State All-Stars defeated Ministry of Health 4-3 in the  week one of the competition respectively.

Eight teams  would be slugging it out  in this year’s event are: The defending champion Ekimogun All Stars, Akure Veteran All Stars, Ijapo Ages All Stars, Lawyers NBA All Stars, Ondo State All Stars, Ministry of Health All Stars, Alagbaka United All Stars, Afunbiowo All Stars.f
