Master Oluwatosin Adedeji from Osun state and Mrs David Abiye (Oyo)have emerged winners of the maiden edition of Sunshine Marathon in male and female categories respectively.
Master Shaba Dare and Miss Nuhu Elizabeth joy from Jos came second in both categories while Abubakar Muhammed (Jos) and Adofure Charity (Osun) ended the marathon in third position respectively.
The marathon started at the Akure Airport junction through A division police station to NEPA roundabout and ended at the Arcade at Igbatoro road in Alagbaka.
The Chairman of the planning committee and Organiser of the event, Ayomikun Benjamin Oladele, while speaking with newsmen said that the competition was in- conjuction with the Ondo State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
Oladele while congratulating the winners of the marathon called on the government at all levels to always support individuals and private sectors with lofty ideas that could meaningfully engage youths.
He said his organisation had been organising series of events like ,comedy show and others in the state, saying he decided to take it to another dimension by going into sports because of its unifying nature.
He said: “We decided to organise this marathon race because it has not been given the deserved recognition in this part of the state, football and few others were the only sports been celebrated here that is why we decided to bring the youth together with the long distance race.
“The race is not just for the fun of it but an avenue to show to the world that talents abound in Ondo State and in the country at large.
“The competition will not be one off event,I’m sure the second edition will be improved upon”.
Speaking with sport writers,the winner of the male category, Oluwatosin Adedeji thanked the organisers for their efforts at contributing their quota to the development of sports in country.
While thanking the organisers, Adedeji disclosed that he had been participating in the marathon race since 2018.
On her part, the female champion, Mrs David Abiye said he had been prepared very well for the race.
The winners of different categories were presented with cash prizes .
