Ondo Redemption Front (ORF) has faulted Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa over what it described as the continued abandonment of governance in Ondo State in favour of politics and endless political movements across the country.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday on behalf of the group by its Chairman, Dr. Ayodeji Ologun, the civic advocacy group said the state has been left “ungoverned and directionless” as the Governor allegedly devotes more attention to political engagements than to the pressing governance challenges confronting the people of the State.
The group expressed concern that despite the resignation of the former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, to pursue elective political ambition, the Governor has allegedly failed to appoint a replacement several weeks after the office became vacant.
According to ORF, the failure to fill such a strategic position reflects the growing lack of seriousness and administrative coordination within the present administration.
“A serious government cannot operate for this long without a Secretary to the State Government. The office of the SSG is not ceremonial, it is the engine room of policy coordination and administrative supervision. Leaving such a critical office vacant while the Governor moves around the country attending political and social functions exposes the absence of urgency and direction within this administration.” The statement read.
The group further alleged that Governor Aiyedatiwa has become more interested in political networking and external engagements than in solving the worsening challenges facing Ondo State, including insecurity, economic hardship, institutional instability, and poor service delivery.
“It is deeply unfortunate that while other governors are commissioning legacy projects and inviting colleagues from across the federation to witness developmental milestones in their states, Ondo State has little or nothing substantial to showcase. Governor Aiyedatiwa travels around to commission projects in other States, yet he has not been able to invite anyone to commission transformative projects in Ondo State because his government lacks foresight, vision, and developmental depth.” ORF stated.
The group argued that the prolonged delay in appointing a new SSG has created the impression that the administration intends to keep the position open as a political convenience, pending the outcome of Dr. Fasoranti’s political ambition.
“It would be unacceptable for such an important office to be treated like a personal or family arrangement where an individual leaves temporarily for political purposes and returns at convenience if the ambition fails. Governance is too serious for this kind of approach.” The statement added.
ORF warned that the continued absence of a properly constituted administrative structure weakens governance and further compounds the leadership vacuum already being experienced across critical sectors in the State.
The group therefore demanded the immediate appointment of a substantive Secretary to the State Government, insisting that Ondo State cannot continue to drift without proper administrative coordination at the highest level of government.
“Governance is not about movement, optics, or political survival. It is about responsibility, coordination, and results. Ondo State deserves a government that is present, focused, and fully committed to the welfare of its people.” The group concluded.
