In a bid to unify and discover talents, People United By Sports (PUBS) will on Monday June 26 birth a maiden traditional competition tagged; Ayo Olopon & Draught Funfair 2023.
The competition will be played at the eight centers which include; Stadium Road, Crown (Adesida Road), Odopetu, Hospital Road (Jaoni), Oke Ijebu, New Stadium, Idi Ayo (Ayedun) and Oba-Ile.
Winners from each centers will compete at the grand finale scheduled for Ondo State Sports complex, Akure to decide the overall winners.
The president of PUBS, Seun Betiku in a chat with newsmen, disclosed that the mandate of the organisation was to use sports as a tool to bring people together.
Betiku added that the purpose of organising the Ayo Olopon & Draught Funfair is to give more prominence to the traditional sports and also to discover hidden talents that can represent the state both locally and at international competitions.
He said there are lots of bounty prizes to be won by the overall winners of the competition.
According to him; “We are not only contributing to the development of football alone, but we are supporting all round sports in the state and beyond.
“We believe that government can not do it alone, so we decided to contribute our quota towards the development of sports in our state.
Recalled that People United By Sports (PUBS) recently donated training kits to Sunshine Queens Football Club of Akure as part of their contributions to the development of sports in the state.
Why has these be limited to Akure alone, since you’re mentioning state?
Please extend it to Owo to make it more standard.
Thanks.
Rev Easy Agbede.
It will extend to other local government.
