Sunshine Stars U19 will today trade tackles with Niger Tornadoes of Minna in the President Federation Cup at the Ilorin Stadium.
The Akure-based youth side earlier defeated Harmony FC 3-1 in a playoff match decided at the Osogbo Township Stadium to qualify for the national stage of Nigeria’s oldest football competition.
Addressing the players ahead of the encounter, the team’s head coach, Nike Ayeni, charged them to remain brave, focused, disciplined, and play according to instructions.
She noted that football is a game played with equal numbers, urging her players not to be intimidated by the pedigree of their opponents.
“You are very good players. Ensure you play as a team and do not seek personal praise. Just play for one another,” she said.
According to the coach, my players are fully prepared for the encounter, adding that every necessary arrangement has been made to ensure victory.
Coach Ayeni’s tutored side will rely on their current form to stage an upset against the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaigners when the match kicks off at 4 p.m. at the Ilorin Stadium.
