Registration Opens for 5th Destination Ondo Community Football Competition

All is now set for the commencement of the fifth edition of the Destination Ondo Community Football Competition.

The Chairman of the Ondo West Local Football Council and chief organiser of the competition, Coach Bobola Akinfolarin, disclosed to journalists that about 20 teams are expected to participate in the inter-street football tournament tagged the Destination Ondo Community Football Competition.

Akinfolarin added that registration for the competition will run from 1 August to 30 August.

He explained that this year’s edition will take a new dimension as it will be played in a league format.

According to him, the fifth edition of the competition will be organised as the “Destination Ondo Inter Street League”, with participating teams playing both home and away fixtures.

The competition is consistently powered and sponsored by the Chairman of La Campaigne Tropicana Beach Resort, Otunba Wanle Akinboboye.

Akinfolarin said the competition is designed to complement the efforts of community-conscious leaders and associations working to keep the Ondo Kingdom safe from all forms of crime.

He said: “Sports, especially football, remains one of the most effective tools for keeping young people away from social vices.

It is a fact that an idle mind is the devil’s workshop.

“This is a football competition that combines entertainment with culture.”

He further noted that, aside from keeping youths actively engaged, the competition will provide employment opportunities for individuals who are not footballers and contribute to the local economy of the host communities.

According to him, traders selling sachet water, soft drinks and other items are expected to enjoy increased patronage throughout the competition.
