Adamimogo FC on Thursday brought an end to Sunshine Stars FC’s 31-year participation in the Federation Cup with a semi-final victory at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure.

Sunshine Stars, founded in 1995, had consistently represented the state in the competition since its inception.

The first half of the closely contested encounter ended goalless, with both sides struggling to break the deadlock.

However, Adamimogo FC took the lead shortly after the restart, displaying greater determination in the second half.

All attempts by Sunshine Stars to equalise were thwarted by the resolute defence of the Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO) side.

Adamimogo FC had reached the semi-finals via the best loser slot, following a 2-1 defeat to Sunshine Stars’ U-19 team.

Speaking after the match, Adamimogo FC Head Coach, Hassan Dosso, said there was little difference between his NLO side and Sunshine Stars, who compete in the Nigeria National League (NNL).

Dosso expressed confidence in his team despite their earlier loss to the club’s U-19 side.

“We first played their U-19 team and lost, but I was confident we would bounce back,” he said.

“There is no big difference between the teams. It is about the mindset of the players, and my boys showed the right attitude.”

He added that his team was ready to represent the state well in the main competition, regardless of the outcome of the final.
