The Ondo State Government on Friday distributed agrochemicals to selected farmers’ groups to boost agricultural products in the state.
Mr Wemimo Akinsola, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Agriculture and Agricbusiness, who distributed the chemicals, said it was part of the programmes earmarked for 2024.
Akinsola said the distribution was also to appreciate the support given by the farmers to the government during the election in the state.
The SSA disclosed that the agency had concluded plans to ensure that the government had farms across the three senatorial districts.
He commended Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State for signing executive bills which would ensure access to land for farming.
“We have a lot of work to do next year and Mr governor has made a pronouncement and signed an executive order for this agency to work better.
”We have to work harder to show for it. The agricultural structure of Ondo State will change because we will do land banking, senatorial farming and proper farms,” he said.
Akinsola, therefore, reitarated the government’s commitment to woo investors in order to boost agriculture and support farmers, saying farmers needed to work with government to improve food security in the state.
Responding on behalf of the farmers’ groups, Mr Durojaiye Dominic, A leader of Agbeladun, appreciated the state government for the gesture.
He said the chemicals would go a long way to assist farmers to boost their production.
Dominic, therefore, appealed to the state government to continue to support farmers for the betterment of the state, and to boost food production in 2025.
