Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has urged members of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to embrace discipline, patriotism and commitment to national service throughout their service year.

Aiyedatiwa gave the charge on Monday at the swearing-in ceremony of the corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko.

The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Henry Omoyofunmi, congratulated the corps members on their successful mobilisation into the scheme.

He described the NYSC as one of the strongest platforms for promoting national unity, cultural integration and youth development in the country.

According to him, the service year presents an opportunity for corps members to build friendships across ethnic and religious divides, gain valuable experiences and contribute meaningfully to the development of their host communities.

“Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in your lives. It is a chapter that demands discipline, patriotism, sacrifice and commitment to national service.

“The oath you have taken today is not a mere ceremonial exercise; it is a solemn pledge to serve Nigeria faithfully and responsibly wherever you are posted,” he said.

The governor noted that Ondo State was known for peace, hospitality and respect for hard work, assuring the corps members of the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for young people to thrive.

He expressed confidence in the ability of youths to drive innovation, social progress and economic growth.

Aiyedatiwa urged the corps members serving in the state to distinguish themselves through integrity, diligence and good conduct, while serving as worthy ambassadors of their families, institutions and states of origin.

He also encouraged them to use their knowledge, creativity and energy to positively impact the lives of people in their host communities.

The governor further advised the corps members to pay serious attention to all activities and lectures during the orientation course, noting that the training was designed to prepare them for the responsibilities ahead.

He enjoined them to actively participate in leadership exercises, skills acquisition programmes and sporting activities organised during the orientation course.

Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth development and wished the corps members a rewarding and successful service year in Ondo State.
