It was a carnival-like atmosphere at the Akure Airport as former Minister of Interior and renowned political tactician, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, arrived to a rousing welcome
Leading the reception was Otunba Akinsola Akinbobola, who, along with members of the fast-growing socio-political group Atunluse Initiatives, turned out in large numbers. Adorned with vibrant banners and echoing with songs of solidarity, the crowd heralded the arrival of the former Osun State Governor with electrifying enthusiasm.
Atunluse Initiatives, a non-partisan organization with membership cutting across various professions in Ondo State, played a significant role in the welcome event. Under the meticulous coordination of its Director General, Elder Sikiru Adetona (Conway), the group added colour, organisation, and grassroots energy to the occasion—making it a memorable political moment in the state capital.
The Acting National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), was also welcome alongside other political heavyweights from across all 18 local government areas of Ondo State. Together with Egbe Atunluse, ADC stakeholders rallied around a man many consider a master strategist in the ongoing political realignment sweeping through the Southwest.
The airport ceremony was followed by a high-level closed-door meeting at St. Jacob Hotel, Alagbaka, where Aregbesola met with key political figures to discuss strategies aimed at transforming governance in Yoruba land.
Otunba Akinbobola a former Special Adviser on political Mobilisation to Former Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko was among the leaders at the high table—a reflection of Atunluse’s rising influence in the regional political landscape.
Addressing the gathering with passion and urgency, Akinbobola lamented the deteriorating state of governance in Ondo:
“There was a time when governance gave people hope,” he said. “But today, Ondo State is wrapped in despondency. Our people are groping in the dark, searching for a leader to drag them out of this dangerous quagmire. I believe Ogbeni Aregbesola is that navigator, divinely sent to redirect our political journey.”
His words resonated with many in the room, highlighting the perceived moral decay and leadership vacuum afflicting the state. He stressed that the Southwest is at a critical crossroads—and that a new kind of leadership is needed to avert further decline.
In his response, Aregbesola spoke with clarity and conviction:
“We are in the right place. God has heard the cries of the people. What we see here today is the beginning of a new hope for our land.”
As the meeting concluded, a fresh wave of optimism swept through attendees. While Egbe Atunluse maintains a non-partisan structure, its strategic involvement in the day’s proceedings reflects its unwavering commitment to progressive governance and the awakening of political consciousness across Ondo State.
With credible voices like Akinbobola backing visionary leaders such as Aregbesola, many believe that the Southwest may be inching closer to a political renaissance—one that could restore the region’s legacy of principled, people-centered leadership.
