The Benue State Government has instructed the state’s Ministry of Sports, Youth Development, and Creativity, overseeing the enhancement of the Aper Aku Stadium, to expedite the project’s completion within the next eight weeks, as opposed to the previously stated 10 weeks.
Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia gave the directive during the media summit for 20 NPFL media directors held in Makurdi.
Expressing enthusiasm over Makurdi being chosen as the venue for the inaugural workshop for 20 NPFL media officers, the Governor highlighted that the Gboko stadium will also undergo renovations as a sports facility that has nurtured exceptional players for the nation.
He elaborated on the ongoing efforts by his administration to establish standard sports facilities in schools across the state, aiming to foster active involvement of students from grassroots levels and restore the state’s reputation as a sports hub for the nation.
“Our administration is devoted to sports development, having secured sponsorship agreements with independent organizations to advance and enhance the sector.
We have settled all outstanding dues for athletes and remain committed to supporting their active participation in the upcoming National Youth Games,” he emphasized.
Governor Alia mentioned that reviving the Governor’s Cup is another commendable initiative of his administration to cultivate players reminiscent of the past glory of Benue, affirming the state’s readiness to host major sporting events to showcase the administration’s dedication to sports development.
Earlier, the President of the NPFL Media Officers’ Forum, Mr. Eche Amos, lauded the Benue State Government for its diverse initiatives and policies aimed at sports development, hailing its investments in the renovation of the Aparaku Stadium as a commendable endeavor.
He expressed the forum’s pride in being associated with Governor Hyacinth Iormem’s administration’s policies and programs for sports development over the past year in office, urging the Governor to uphold this legacy.
Subsequently, the forum bestowed upon the Governor the title of grand patron of the association and presented him with the corresponding accolade.
The event’s highlights included the presentation of papers on the expected roles and responsibilities of a media officer, engaging fans within the community, promoting the NPFL brand, and enhancing clubs’ presence on social media
