AKEREDOLU: TIME TO RESTORE GOVERNANCE IN ONDO STATE, PRESERVES WHAT IS LEFT OF AKETI’S LEGACY
What is going on in Ondo State is so disheartening and shameful; governance is practically nonexistent while illegality reigns supreme, with wide claim of forgery of Governor’s signature on official documents. My dear Ondo State, how did we get here?
Clearly this is not even in the best interest of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, but the cabals profiting from the sorry situation. Those who have held Ondo State by the jugular, capitalising on the ill-health of the governor are not only crippling governance and development in the state but eroding any legacy, the Governor ought to be remembered for.
Many have talked about Akeredolu’s strides in regional security, bold stance in national issues and decent infrastructural achievements. However, with the political impasse and poor state of governance in Ondo State, Akeredolu’s legacy and achievements in office are being eroded daily.
To save what is left of his legacy those who are close to him and love him genuinely enough must rise above their selfish interest and give way for his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa to take reign of power.
As it is written in the holy book, there is time for everything under sun. Time to start and time to bow out for the greater good. Even in good health, the governor’s tenure will eventually come to an end, but his legacy, if well preserved will live on.
The Ondo State House of Assembly (HoA), the Presidency, the National Assembly, APC leadership, state traditional rulers and elder statesmen should all stand up for that which is rightly overdue to save the State by invoking the provision in the 1999 Constitution and transfer power to Aiyedatiwa while we all continue to pray for Akeredolu’s healing and recovery.
The peace brokered by President Bola Tinubu between the warring factions in Ondo State government and party leadership could only douse political tension temporarily, but not governance which is of more importance.
Though not constitutional, another mediation and intervention from the President could be all that is required to get the Ondo HoA to do the needful and restore governance in the Sunshine State.
