In preparation for the flag-off of the construction of dualization of Akure-Idanre road by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the state government held a stakeholders meeting with the Deji of Akure land, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade and his Council of Chiefs.
Speaking during the meeting held at the palace of the king in Akure, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engineer Abiola Olawoye reiterated the commitment of Governor Aiyedatiwa to Infrastructural development of Akure as a befitting state capital without neglecting other towns and communities across the state.
Engineer Abiola, who declared that the first phase of the project which is about 10 kilometers would commence from Cashhold junction in Akure to Store area along Idanre road while the second phase would take off from that portion to Idanre town.
The Special Adviser emphasized that the stakeholders meeting was called to sensitize and solicit the cooperation of the people of the town and particularly people whose properties would be marked for demolition during the construction of the project.
He enjoined the people of the state and in particular, the two benefiting towns to continue to support Governor Aiyedatiwa led administration so as to initiate more dividends of democracy to the people, adding that the legacy project would greatly improve on the socio economic development of the state.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Akure Local Government Council, Dr Gbenga Fasua applauded Governor Aiyedatiwa for massive road infrastructure projects embarked upon in Akure metropolis since the commencement of his administration with a view to making Akure City compete with other developed state capitals in the country.
Dr Fasua, who is the Chairman of Association of Local Government Chairmen in the state, appealed to the people, who would be affected by project to endure the difficulties it might cause them bearing in mind that its benefits will greatly out weigh the temporary difficulties.
Earlier in his opening speech, the Administrative Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engineer Akinluyi Omotola stated that the meeting was imperative to sensitize the stakeholders of government developmental initiatives, seek for their cooperation to achieve success, as well as interact on issues that might hinder timely completion of the project.
In his speech, the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo appreciated Governor Aiyedatiwa for facilitating various Infrastructural development projects in his domain during his reign which he said was unprecedented in history of the town.
The monarch, therefore, pledged unalloyed loyalty and support of his people to the Governor and the success of the project.
Some of the Chiefs, who spoke at meeting equally applauded the Governor for various monumental developmental projects initiated and executed by his administration in Akure township, however appealed to the government to pay commensurate compensation to people whose properties would be demolished by the dualization project.
While appreciating the State Governor for approving the project and the Deji of Akure for mobilizing his people for success of the meeting, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Oluwagbenga Akingbasote mni, called on the stakeholders and the people of the two towns to cooperate with the government and the contractor for speedy and seamless completion of the project.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Lands and Housing, Mr Edward Ogunmola, his Directors in the Ministry and all the Directors in the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development attended the meeting.
