A community group, Friends of BOD, has carried out a drainage clearance exercise in New Town, Ondo City, to improve environmental sanitation and reduce the risk of flooding during the rainy season.
The exercise focused on clearing blocked drainage channels that had become a major concern for residents, with the aim of ensuring the free flow of rainwater and preventing flood-related hazards within the community.
Members of the group said the initiative reflected their belief that community development begins with addressing the everyday needs of the people. They noted that blocked drainage systems not only heighten the risk of flooding but also create unhealthy environmental conditions capable of affecting public health.
According to the group, taking proactive steps to tackle such challenges is essential to building safer, healthier and more resilient communities.
The Friends of BOD explained that the movement is more than a support platform for Bolaji Omotayo Daramola (BOD), describing it as a community-driven initiative made up of individuals committed to the growth and development of Ondo Kingdom.
The group added that meaningful progress is achieved when citizens work together to identify local challenges and take practical steps to resolve them.
Residents of New Town welcomed the intervention, describing it as timely and beneficial to the community.
They expressed appreciation for the effort and called for more collaborative initiatives aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness, public safety and sustainable development across Ondo Kingdom.
