NAIRA RAIN FOR TEAM NIGERIA AT CAA AFRICA U18/U20 ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced a reward package for Nigerian athletes excelling at the ongoing CAA Africa U18/U20 Athletics Championship, holding at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta.

In a morale-boosting move, the NSC declared that gold medalists will receive ₦1,000,000 each, silver medalists ₦750,000, and bronze medalists ₦500,000.

The announcement was made on Day 2 of the championship, with NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade in attendance, visibly impressed by the remarkable performances of the Team Nigeria contingent.

“Look at the way our athletes have been performing in this championship—you see commitment and dedication in their faces,” said Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the NSC. “We will reward them for every medal they win. Our athletes must always have a reason to compete for our great nation with pride.”

Hon. Bukola Olopade, who also chairs the Local Organising Committee, emphasized the long-term vision behind the incentive:

“We must continue to prioritize the welfare of our athletes. When they’re well taken care of, they will deliver, as we are already witnessing here. This championship is a stepping stone toward the Commonwealth Games and the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.”

Officials from the Athletics Federation of Nigeria commended the NSC’s gesture, noting that such timely incentives are crucial in nurturing young talent and boosting Nigeria’s future on the global athletics stage.
