The NWFL Premiership Media Directors Forum (NWFLPMDF) has congratulated the six clubs that qualified for the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League Premiership Super Six Playoffs, while also praising the league’s Chief Operating Officer, Madam Modupe Shabi, for improvements recorded during the season.
The clubs that secured places in the Super Six are Edo Queens FC, Bayelsa Queens FC, Rivers Angels FC, Robo Queens FC, Nasarawa Amazons FC and Abia Angels FC.
In a statement jointly signed by the Forum’s Secretary, Chinedu Charles, and President, Faith Oluchi Meremegbunam, the body described the clubs’ qualification as a reward for hard work, consistency and discipline throughout the regular season.
The Forum said the standard of competition witnessed during the campaign reflected the continued growth of women’s football in Nigeria and wished the six teams success as they prepare to contest for the league title.
The NWFLPMDF also reserved special praise for Madam Shabi, commending her leadership in overseeing what it described as a more organised, competitive and professionally managed season.
According to the Forum, stakeholders and followers of women’s football had witnessed significant improvements in the organisation, visibility and overall quality of the NWFL Premiership during the campaign.
It further noted that the league successfully completed its longest regular season since 2019, with more than 162 matches played across 18 matchdays involving 19 clubs.
The Forum stated that the achievement demonstrated strong coordination, resilience and commitment towards the development of women’s football in the country.
It also encouraged clubs that narrowly missed out on Super Six qualification to remain focused ahead of next season, noting that the margins between teams were very slim.
The body similarly urged relegated clubs to regroup and rebuild in a bid to return stronger to the top flight.
“May the playoffs be decided through merit, fair play, excellence, and true sportsmanship,” the statement added.
