Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has been commended for being the first governor since the creation of Ondo State to appoint a true sportsman as Chairman of the Ondo State Sports Council.
“This is the first time the Chairman of the Sports Council is being appointed from the sports fraternity, and we are very appreciative of this opportunity from our Governor.”
President of the Ondo State All Stars Football Veterans, Comrade Rafiu Yusuf Elele, stated this while receiving the newly appointed Chairman of the Council, Hon. Oladimeji Abimbola, at the veterans’ training session ahead of the South-West qualifiers competition in Akure.
Yusuf described the appointment of Abimbola, a former Sunshine Queens coach and immediate past board member of the Ondo State Football Agency, as a step in the right direction towards reclaiming the lost glory of sports in the state.
He assured the Council Chairman of the veterans’ maximum support in repositioning sports in the state and taking it to the next level.
“As Ondo State All Stars Football Veterans, we are ready to support him to return the state’s sports to where it truly belongs in the comity of states.”
Responding, Hon. Oladimeji Abimbola thanked the football veterans for their show of love and support, noting that he is also a member of the association.
While expressing his affection for the veterans’ association, he solicited their cooperation in developing the sports sector in the state.
“You all understand the arena, and I am counting on you to offer your advice on how to reposition our sports.
The job is for all of us. We have abundant talent in Ondo State; our challenge is how to synergise and create a workable system that will allow them to grow into stars.
“With the cooperation of all stakeholders, our sports shall be great again.”
