The deputy governor of Ondo state, Dr Olayide Adelami, mni, has received with rude shock the unpleasant news of the death of Madam Esther Olotu, popularly known as Iya Alaanu, who passed on Friday night, in Owo.
Until her demise, Madam Olotu was a grassroots politician of Owo descent, seasoned educationist and community leader, whose impact in the lives of the people cannot be overemphasized.
The deputy governor described her as a reliable and dependable politician with years of proven track record – an uncommon attribute that endeared her to many, including himself.
He said, “Since our paths crossed about a decade ago, Iya alaanu was reputed for always putting first the Adelami’s political cause and would go out of her way to carry out any political assignment on my behalf without reservation.
“As a staunch member of my political family, she earned herself a front-row seat owing to her selflessness, doggedness and graciousness and as a result, she was appointed special assistant to the deputy speaker of the 8th national assembly.
“As the nickname implies, Iya Alaanu was a cheerful giver and prominent philantropist, whose large influence over a good many women in Owo was leveraged by Lions Club International, District 404A1 Nigeria, to birth the Owo Unique Club some years ago, during which she served as its Charter President. No doubt, she kept her social work going until she breathe her last.
“Iya Alaanu was noted for putting life into political gatherings with the right songs at the right time. She is a team player, who would always organize an army of cheering and socially confident women to sing and dance at most of our political events in Owo. Of recent, she put together about a hundred women, who came royally dressed to spice up the Owo/Ose APC public endorsement of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
“Though, she left us so soon but we are consoled by her life of impact and legacy of community service. She will be greatly missed”
The deputy governor commiserated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Owo, her grieving children and the entire Olotu family, as he prayed that the good Lord will grant her eternal rest.
