Ondo State Conscience Movement Demands Actions Over Alleged Forged Akeredolu’s Signature

In a deeply troubling turn of events, the Ondo State Conscience Movement is compelled to address the pressing issues surrounding the alleged forgery of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s signature. These allegations, if proven true, pose a grave threat not only to the credibility of the state’s leadership but also to its resources and reputation on the national stage.

The Movement also wishes to expresses vehement disapproval of the prolonged and protracted failure to transfer executive powers to Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as mandated by the law, as this could have prevented the circumvention of executive powers by signature forgers. This delay tactics that kept executive powers revolving around the ailing Mr. Governor for far too long raised serious questions about the commitment of those in authority to the principles of transparency, accountability, and due process. It was an affront to the citizens of Ondo State who deserve a government that operates within the bounds of legality and ethical governance. The transmission of executive power to the Deputy Governor by Governor Akeredolu is therefore commendable even though needlessly drawn-out.

The State Assembly Members, by virtue of their positions, are entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding the interests of the people. However, the Ondo State Conscience Movement observes with dismay the trend of these representatives seeking instructions from external entities, notably shuttling to and from Abuja for guidance on matters that should be clear-cut based on the law and due process. This practice not only reflects poorly on their autonomy but also raises serious doubts about their ability to act independently in the best interests of Ondo State.

In the same vein, it is imperative to highlight the damaging consequences of the alleged signature forgery. Such actions not only undermine the democratic fabric of the state but also compromise the allocation and utilization of resources. The potential misuse of the ailing Governor’s signature could lead to misappropriation of funds, tarnishing the reputation of Ondo State and jeopardizing its developmental endeavours.

The Ondo State Conscience Movement therefore emphatically calls for an extensive and thorough investigation into the alleged signature forgery. The findings must be made public to ensure transparency and to hold those responsible accountable for their actions. The Movement asserts that this investigation is not just a matter of legal scrutiny but a crucial step toward reclaiming the integrity of the state’s governance structures.

In a direct appeal to the acting Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Ondo State Conscience Movement urges him to exercise his authority and initiate an immediate and exhaustive investigation into the alleged signature forgeries of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s signature by cronies in his cabinet. As the current steward of the state’s executive responsibilities, Mr. Aiyedatiwa holds a pivotal role in upholding the principles of justice and accountability. The Movement implores him to champion transparency by demanding a thorough inquiry, ensuring that the findings are made public. This act would not only underscore his commitment to the rule of law but also demonstrate an unwavering dedication to the well-being and integrity of Ondo State.

The Ondo State Conscience Movement further wishes to call on all stakeholders, including the civil society, to stand united in demanding swift and decisive action. The well-being and future of Ondo State depend on a governance system that upholds the rule of law, respects due process, and places the interests of the people above all else.
