In a bid to contribute to sports development, the Second Vice Chairman of the Ondo State Hockey Association, Engr. Adesoji Adekanle, has donated 11 pairs of hockey sticks to the association.
Adekanle, while presenting the hockey sticks to the General Manager of the Ondo State Sports Council, Mrs Evelyn Lebi, in her office in Akure, the state capital, stated that everything should not be left to the government.
He added that sports development is a collective responsibility, noting that he decided to support a sport that has played a significant role in his life.
According to him, “I cannot write anything about myself without hockey.I served at this sports council as a corps member and enjoyed my stay.
So I decided to give back to the sport that has given me so much.”
He enjoined other individuals and sports enthusiasts to join hands with the government, both at the national and state levels, to develop the sector.
In her response, the General Manager, Mrs Evelyn Lebi, thanked the donor for remembering his roots.
She urged him to use his influence to bring other ex-hockey players together with the aim of developing the game.
“I am happy you donated these hockey sticks to us. I appeal to others to take a cue from this gesture and extend their support to other sports in the council.
“As a former national and state hockey player, I understand the value of what you have given us. May God continue to bless you abundantly.”
The Head Coach of hockey team in the state, Mark Oloruntola, also commended the association’s Vice Chairman for his contribution to the development of the game.
“This will go a long way towards developing the sport at the grassroots. Like Oliver Twist, we ask for more from other sports lovers.”
