Sunshine Stars’ Woes Compounded As Players, Officials Yet To Receive April Salary

Amidst relegation battle,Players and Officials of Sunshine Stars are yet to receive salary for the month of April and as things are going,May salary is not also guaranteed.

According to reports the players, who were determined to see the remaining season stronger than they started are not happy with the situation as most of them could not eat well and fend for their immediate families.

Reports from the camp of the players even suggested that some of them are ready to down tools as respite is not in sight and no positive response from state football agency as to when the salaries could be paid.

Sunshine Stars are currently 17th on the log and will play President Cup on Wednesday and host Bendel Insurance when the league resumes at home next Sunday.

Some of the players who carved anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the matter said it was a sad thing that even when civil servants had been paid they were yet to receive their own salary and putting their body on the line to serve the state.

The player said that the situation, if not quickly resolved may go out of hand and affect the psyche of some of the players which is not needed at this crucial time.

“We don’t really know what is going on, we have been training and preparing for matches, but we need to be motivated, it seems government does not care about us, our salary is running into the second month, though we are professionals, but we have families to feed too. Who will be happy seeing his or her family go to bed hungry? We beg the government to come to our rescue and save us from this situation.” He said.

Another player who corroborated his teammate said government should be fast about the payment of players and officials’ salary because it’s disturbing to be playing for a premier league club and be borrowing money to feed.

“This is not the time to play with the welfare of the team, everyone is supposed to be happy and be in the same page. We are fighting relegation for crying out loud and we have seen some positives in recent times, but money is needed to achieve a lot in these fight.” He added.
