Team Work Secrete Of Sunshine Stars’ Relegation Survival – Yusuf-Ogunleye

Ondo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye has said Sunshine Stars relegation survival was achieved due to the team work of critical stakeholders in the state.

He also approved three weeks, one month break for Sunshine Stars FC and Sunshine Queens FC respectively, for the end of the 2023/24 football season.

He assured that the management will continue to prioritise the welfare of players and officials of both teams .

Yusuf-Ogunleye had put in place a tactical rescue committee, comprising of professionals immediately he resumed office as the commissioner for Youth and Sports Development with the mandate to take the team out of red zone.

The Commissioner said it was same players, coaches who were playing when we were in the 18th position, that were still the one that took the team to 10th position on the log with 52 points .

He commended players, Coaches, supporters club of both teams and the tactical rescue committee for a job well done.

He stated this at the end of the season’s meeting held with players and officials of both Sunshine Stars and Sunshine Queens at the ministry of youth and sports indoor hall in Akure, the state capital.

According to him, “we are not going to play politics with selection of players for Sunshine Stars and Sunshine Queens.

“We will always go for best legs that will return us to where are supposed to be among the comity of teams in the country.”

“Everybody must be on their toes, no politics ,no sentiment, everybody must perform their duties effectively.”

“We will start preparation for a better season, we must be more serious this time, we can play continental next season, teams that qualified are not better than us.”

In his welcome address, Administrative Secretary of Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA), Ijeh Bekewei described the just concluded season as very challenging for the teams.

He said: “We thank God that we are able to surmount the challenges , we are going to start on a good note next season.”

All the stakeholders at the meeting urged the management of the teams to start preparation for next season earlier and ensure they prioritise the welfare of both players and officials of both clubs.
