UNICEF Nigeria has commended the Federal Government on the formal launch of the Generation Unlimited Nigeria (GenU 9JA) National Secretariat, describing it as a major milestone in advancing youth development in the country.
In a statement, UNICEF said the Secretariat, launched on March 31 and anchored in the Office of the Vice President, reflects the government’s strong commitment to placing young people at the centre of national development.
The organisation noted that the initiative represents one of the most ambitious efforts to connect millions of young Nigerians to learning, skills acquisition and economic opportunities.
According to UNICEF, since its inception in 2021, Generation Unlimited Nigeria has reached over 11 million youths across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
It said the programme had provided access to digital skills, employment pathways and civic engagement opportunities, with a focus on young women and those from marginalised communities.
UNICEF added that with a target of reaching 20 million young people by 2030, the establishment of the National Secretariat marks a new phase in scaling impact.
The agency explained that the Secretariat, co-led by the Office of the Vice President and UNICEF under a Public-Private-Youth Partnership framework, would serve as a high-level coordination hub.
It said the platform would bring together government ministries, the private sector, development partners and youths to strengthen policies, programmes and investments in youth empowerment.
UNICEF reaffirmed its commitment to providing technical and systems support in developing learning-to-earning pathways, including digital skills, education, employability and entrepreneurship.
The organisation also pledged to work closely with stakeholders to ensure effective implementation and delivery of results for young Nigerians.
