The Unity Cup has been officially designated a FIFA Tier 1 event ahead of next week’s tournament at The Valley in south-east London, organisers have confirmed.

The recognition marks a significant milestone for the competition, underlining its growing international standing while ensuring all matches played during the tournament carry full international status under FIFA regulations.

This year’s Unity Cup will feature four national teams, Nigeria, Jamaica, India and Zimbabwe, competing across two semi-finals and a finals day between May 26 and 30 at Charlton Athletic’s historic home ground.

Nigeria will open the tournament against Zimbabwe on Tuesday, May 26, before Jamaica face India in the second semi-final on Wednesday, May 27. The competition will conclude on Saturday, May 30, with the third-place play-off followed by the final.

Tournament organisers described the FIFA Tier 1 designation as a major step forward for the Unity Cup, which has continued to grow in prominence as a celebration of football, culture and diaspora communities in London.

The tournament has become known for bringing together supporters from diverse backgrounds while showcasing international football in a festive atmosphere.

Last year’s edition saw Nigeria lift the trophy after defeating Jamaica on penalties following a 2-2 draw in the final. The Super Eagles had earlier overcome Ghana 2-1 in the semi-finals at Brentford Stadium in London.
