Volunteers working at the ongoing Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) U-18/U-20 African Athletics Championship in Abeokuta have been praised for their hard work, commitment, and outstanding performance.
According to Mr. Jude Anyadufu, Chairman of the Volunteers Sub-Committee, the team of over 250 accredited volunteers, including basket carriers, have shown uncommon dedication.
“These are the best volunteers I’ve ever worked with. They are always on their duty post. I thank them for believing in me,” he said.
Alhaji Abiodun Jubril Onigbede, Chairman of the Location Sub-Committee, described the volunteers as “wonderful” and said they performed excellently across various departments such as technical, media, medical, transportation, and protocol.
“They are the unsung heroes of this championship,” he noted. “There has been no negative report from foreign athletes. I’ll be glad to recommend them for future sports events.”
Michael Azeez Ogunsiji, Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ogun State Chapter, also applauded the volunteers, especially those assigned to the media center.
“Their services are topnotch and very useful,” he remarked.
Media volunteers including Mr. Lamide Kehinde, Olusegun Famesa, and Femi Atolagbe spoke with several officials and fellow volunteers to gather these reactions.
Some of the volunteers also shared their personal experiences.
Femi Oluwatosin, who served in Call Room 1, described his role in guiding athletes to the accreditation center as “a wonderful experience.”
Mercy Jayeola, from Kwara State, expressed her appreciation to the Local Organizing Committee for the chance to serve.
“This was not just a national assignment, it was international. I worked closely with Senegalese athletes, and it was a great experience. I’ll gladly volunteer again,” she said.
Otunba Akinbobola, Secretary of the Volunteers Sub-Committee, gave special commendation to the volunteers, describing their performance as outstanding and worthy of recognition. He noted that their dedication, discipline, and teamwork greatly contributed to the smooth running of the championship.
“These volunteers have proven themselves beyond expectation. Their commitment and conduct throughout the event have been excellent. I proudly give them a pass mark and rate them very high,” he stated.
Aregbesola Nifemi, a volunteer from Ondo State, thanked the LOC and specially Otunba Akinbobola, Secretary of the Volunteers Sub-Committee.
“This event gave me the opportunity to connect internationally and interact with journalists from across Africa,” she said.
Quietly and efficiently, these volunteers have helped make the championship a success—working behind the scenes, but leaving a visible impact.
