Victory over Zambia confirms Super Falcons as powerhouse of African women’s football – Ologbese

The President of Ologbese Global Sports Management, Otunba Dele Ologbese, has described the Super Falcons’ emphatic victory over Zambia at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) as a reaffirmation of Nigeria’s dominance and consistency in African women’s football.

Ologbese noted that Nigeria’s top FIFA ranking as the best women’s football team in Africa is no fluke, pointing out that the country has maintained its dominance since the inception of WAFCON in 1998. According to him, few people gave the Super Falcons a chance, let alone expected such a commanding win against the highly rated Zambians.

Speaking with Sporting Hope, the pioneer Secretary of the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA) congratulated the nine-time African champions and urged them not to relent in their quest to outclass their next opponents in the semi-finals and ultimately win the cup to bring joy to millions of football-loving Nigerians.

He also commended head coach Justin Madugu for his tactical brilliance and for fielding the best players in all key areas, which he said contributed significantly to the team’s impressive victory.

The former Vice Chairman of the Ondo State Football Association had earlier warned of the threat posed by Zambia’s Copper Queens, led by two of Africa’s most lethal forwards — Barbra Banda and Racheal Kundananji.

“The Super Falcons were not given much of a chance to go beyond the quarter-finals. They were often considered underdogs,” Ologbese said. “The Copper Queens were rated higher than Nigeria by bookmakers and even soothsayers, especially after their 1–0 win over Nigeria in the third-place match of the 2022 WAFCON.”

“With Nigeria’s triumph at this stage, I have renewed faith and absolute confidence in the ability of our resilient girls to clinch their tenth WAFCON title,” he added.

“I always believed that the clash between these two football giants was the real ‘final before the final.’ Whoever wins such a fierce battle is destined to go all the way in this competition.

With their scintillating performance against the highly ambitious Zambians, history beckons on the Super Falcons to regain the title for the 10th time.”
