Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi as the new Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).

The appointment followed the recommendation of the university’s Governing Council in accordance with the institution’s Act and other extant regulations.

The Governing Council, chaired by Dr Tunji Abayomi, recommended Obamuyi after he emerged the top candidate among 15 applicants interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board.

Professor Obamuyi, a distinguished scholar in Banking and Finance, will succeed the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige.

He has held several academic and administrative positions, including Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA and the first substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

His academic accomplishments include receiving the Africa Education Leadership Award as the Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa in 2015. He has also served on National Universities Commission programme accreditation teams and was Chairperson and Subject Expert of the Review Panel for Namibia’s National Council for Higher Education.

Professor Obamuyi has presented scholarly papers at international conferences in Finland, the United Kingdom, Canada, Sweden, Ireland, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Ethiopia, India and the United States.

Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that the new Vice-Chancellor’s extensive academic and administrative experience would strengthen the university’s achievements and further advance its teaching, research and community service.

The governor urged Professor Obamuyi to uphold the institution’s core values while promoting peace, innovation and collaboration among staff, students and other stakeholders.

He also reaffirmed the Ondo State Government’s commitment to supporting AAUA in sustaining its position as one of Nigeria’s leading state-owned universities.
