The Ondo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Henry Omoyofunmi, has called on sports unions, coaches, and athletes to prioritize dialogue and unity following a demonstration at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure.

The protest, which briefly stalled operations at the facility, was organized by union leaders and athletes expressing dissatisfaction over the appointment of Mrs. Evelyn Lebi as the Acting General Manager of the Ondo State Sports Council.
Speaking during a high-level meeting with the Council’s management, Hon. Omoyofunmi acknowledged that while the right to air grievances is a fundamental democratic principle, the disruption of activities at the complex was “unacceptable.” He attributed the friction primarily to misinformation and a lapse in communication, confirming that the ministry has since held extensive consultations with key stakeholders to bridge the gap.
”These discussions have led to a mutual understanding,” the Commissioner noted. “Stakeholders are now unified and committed to advancing the sports development agenda of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa under Mrs. Lebi’s leadership.”
Hon. Omoyofunmi further underscored the administration’s “unprecedented” investment in sports infrastructure and grassroots initiatives, urging the sporting community to safeguard these gains through industrial harmony.
Lending his voice to the call for order, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Mr. Allen Sowore, enjoined stakeholders within the ministry to reciprocate the Governor’s commitment with professionalism. He emphasized that discipline and collective responsibility are essential pillars for achieving sustainable sports excellence in the state.
