Destination Ondo Inter Street Football Competition Second Edition kicks off

Rainbow and Yaba have played a goaless draw in the opening match of the second edition of the Destination Ondo Inter Street Football competition held at the Ondo City Stadium.

While the second match of the opening match between Funmbi Fagun and Odosida street also ended in a 1-1.

Meanwhile, Newtown played a barren draw with Eyinpeti while Housing Estate defeated Ayeyemi 1-0 in the match day two encounter.

The street football competition sponsored by the Chairman of Laa Campagne Tropicana Otunba Wanle Akinboboye among the youths of the kingdom was a display of raw talents at the grassroots.

The players displayed football artistry to the admiration of the spectators.

The winners of the first edition of the competition went home with cash prize of N600,000 while the second runner up and third place winners got N400,000 and N150,000 respectively.

The Chairman of Ondo West football Association, Mr Bobola Akinfolarin in a chat with Newsmen disclosed be that the second edition will be an improvement on the maiden edition.

Akinfolarin thanked the sponsor for giving back to Ondo Kingdom through football, saying sports remain the best tool to take the youth away from social vices.

He charged the participating teams to play according to rules of the competition, adding that they should be guided with the spirit of sportsmanship.

He said: “Let’s allow healthy rivalry to strive among us, we are one big family, we have started the competition in peace and we shall end with thanksgiving”.
