Gov.Aiyedatiwa: Honour your 60% survention increase to Tertiary lnstitutions

By Kanu Samuel

Promise is always said to be a debt.Promise honoured promotes trust and intergrity. The public pronouncement on the increase of 60% subvention was widely spread to demand fulfilment.

It is unfortunate that its fulfillment is in limbo and this appears to be unusual with the populist Governor in Ondo- State- Dr.Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.

The welfare of workers should be a top priority of the Ondo – State helmsman as he also pursues other physical development of the State.

Politicians are known these days for not keeping their word of promises and to an extent their manifesto but Gov Aiyedatiwa can use his own time to correct such impressions.

It is believed that Governor Aiyedatiwa is a product of the school of Awolowo and a successor to a man called talk and do while alife.

The dua personalities mentioned above left legacies that cements their relevance to governance after years of demise but still remembered today.

It is also believed by every indexes that Ondo- State is receiving much more fund either through allocation and internally generated revenue to meet the public pronouncements on varying developmental and human capacity projects.

The peaceful and cordial relationship demonstrated by workers should not be taken for granted by the government but rather should be complemented.

The effective handling of School activities in the hands of the managers of our tertiary institutions should also be complemented so as to avoid industrial dispute and the evil effects of distruption to academic activities and other infrastructure development.

2027 is around the corner.President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the presidential candidate for APC and he has said it loud and clear that State Governors are receiving enough to make their people happy in respective states.

Ondo – State is equally governed by APC Governor and expected to key into this public statement of our dear president.

Tertiary institutions in Ondo – State needs an urgent fund rescue and when the pronouncement of 60% subvention increment was widely announced for public consumption the heads of these institutions came with applause and euphoria to the Governor.

Fulfilling this promise will help tbe managers of these institutions to do better and enjoy hitch free academic calendar.

The case of RUGIPO deserves much more an urgent case. The minimum wage issue is lamenting as no cadre or category of workforce in Nigeria either civil or public is still receiving #18000 as they do.

The Com.mittee set up by the Government to review this ridiculous figure over months is yet to supply its report, yet another Government pronouncement on subvention 60% increase has not seen the light of the day.

Politics is about service as leadership is about responsibility and election is about figures.

I want to urge our amiable Governor to honour his promise to these tertiary institutions and strengthen his position as a worker friendly Governor. We do not need to re- awake industrial or student crisis in any of the institutions again.

This time should be for peaceful atmosphere so as to get it well on mobilisation for the future elections.A stitch in time saves nine.
