Ileya Unity Football Tourney Kicks Off in Akure Today…Organisers Assure Level Playing Ground for All Teams

The second edition of the Ileya Unity Football Competition, sponsored by the Federal Minister of Youth Development, Hon. Olawande Ayodele, kicks off today in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Grassroots football teams from across Ondo State will compete over the next four days in the spirited tournament aimed at promoting sportsmanship and youth engagement during the festive season.

Speaking to newsmen in Akure, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Tolulope Robert (popularly known as Romeo), emphasized that the tournament is designed to productively engage the youth during the Ileya festivities.

“This competition is primarily put in place to keep our youth positively engaged and to provide a platform for them to showcase their football talents,” Robert said.

He added that the tournament would follow a knockout format, similar to traditional FA competitions.

Robert also disclosed that a pre-tournament seminar was held with representatives from all participating teams to discuss the structure and rules of the competition.

“All teams and organisers are on the same page. We’ve ensured everyone understands the modalities of the tournament,” he said.

“We are assuring all teams of a level playing ground. We will be fair and just to every participant.”

He further urged all teams to adhere strictly to the rules and spirit of the game.

According to him, the tournament offers another opportunity for grassroots football development, giving team owners and players the chance to demonstrate their skills and gain exposure.
