Opeoluwa Olufemi and Michael Olalusi shine as Sunshine Stars  overpower Gateway United in their Nigeria National League (NNL) matchday two clash at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.
Sunshine Stars dominated the first half from the blast of the referee’s whistle but were unable to find the back of the net despite several promising opportunities.
Bobola Akinfolarin’s men finally broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute, when Opeoluwa Olufemi fired home to give the hosts a deserved lead. Gateway United attempted an immediate response, but their efforts were effectively contained by the resilient Sunshine Stars backline.
Just three minutes later, substitute Michael Olalusi delivered the decisive blow. After receiving a pass inside the box, Olalusi skipped past an onrushing defender before placing a composed finish into the far corner to seal a crucial 2–0 victory. The win serves as a strong response to their disappointing 1–0 away loss to Ebedel FC in the league opener.
In his post-match reaction, Sunshine Stars head coach Bobola Akinfolarin praised both his players and the supporters for their commitment, noting that it had been over a year since the team last played at the Akure Stadium.
According to him, “We got relegated last season and we lost many of our players, so we are in a rebuilding process. This is a league competition; we still have many matches to play. So, game by game, we will be improving.”
He added, “We will keep working on our attack and other departments of the team. We are not going to be carried away with this result.”
