Some elders under the aegis of the Ondo State All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Movement have pledged to deliver over 1.5 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
The Chairman of the Movement, Senator Nimbe Farunkanmi, made this known during a meeting of the group held on Monday in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Farunkanmi described the movement as a unified body of APC elders committed to party cohesion and electoral victory. He stated that the group would ensure President Tinubu receives 90 per cent of votes cast in Ondo State during the next presidential election.
“This is an elders’ movement for Tinubu’s continuity. This is not just another support group,” Farunkanmi said.
“We will hold similar meetings across local governments, wards, and polling units to mobilise massive support for Tinubu’s re-election.”
Also speaking at the event, party leader Mr. Jamiu Ekungba emphasized the importance of strategic mobilisation. He said the movement would encourage citizens to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“We’ve done it before. In the last election, the governor won 366,000 votes—unusual for our state,” Ekungba noted.
“With proper mobilisation, we can deliver 1.5 million votes to Tinubu. The challenge is getting people to come out and vote.”
Mrs. Olukemi Iyantan, wife of the late deputy governor of the state and current Federal Commissioner representing Ondo State at the National Population Commission, said the elders are now shifting focus to the 2027 elections following the November 16 governorship poll.
“The creation of the elders’ movement is key to fostering unity and direction,” Iyantan said.
“We now have respected leaders to guide the party, unlike in the past. With their wisdom, we can achieve greater success in 2027.”
Another party chieftain, Mr. Olumuyiwa Ogunleye, said the elders are stepping in to unite the party and consolidate all support efforts under one banner.
“All support groups will now operate under the umbrella of ‘Ondo State for Tinubu 2027,’” Ogunleye stated.
“This move, aligned with the governor’s statutory caucus, is to ensure unity and maximize votes for President Tinubu.”
