The Association of Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries in Ondo State has commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for approving pension harmonisation for its members, describing the decision as a major boost to the welfare of retired senior civil servants.

The association conveyed its appreciation on Friday when a delegation, led by its State Chairman, Mrs Moji Ajayi, paid a courtesy visit to the Head of Service, Chief Segun Odusanya, to deliver a letter of appreciation addressed to the governor.

The delegation also thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa for appointing two of its members, Dr Mann Ali and Mr Mike Oshodi, as Chairman and member of the Ondo State Civil Service Commission, respectively, pledging the association’s continued support for the success of the administration.

Speaking during the visit, Mrs Ajayi said the pension harmonisation would significantly improve the living conditions of many retired senior civil servants, noting that some members had struggled to meet basic needs because of inadequate monthly pensions.

She also praised Chief Odusanya for his role in the successful implementation of the long-standing demand, saying he remained committed to the cause and justified the confidence reposed in him by the association.

Responding, the Head of Service expressed appreciation for the visit and joined the retirees in thanking Governor Aiyedatiwa for the pension harmonisation and other welfare initiatives introduced for both serving and retired workers.

Odusanya said the governor had maintained a strong commitment to workers’ welfare through the regular and prompt payment of salaries and other entitlements, adding that the wellbeing of workers and residents remained a priority of the administration.

He also commended the state government’s free school shuttle bus scheme for students, describing it as a timely intervention that had eased the transportation burden on many families amid prevailing economic challenges.

He expressed optimism that a similar transportation initiative would, in due course, be extended to civil servants.

“Governance is about people and their welfare. The governor wants to see people happy, and that is what he has continued to demonstrate through these approvals,” he said.

According to him, the recent appointment of 56 Permanent Secretaries underscored the administration’s commitment to strengthening the public service.

He added that the government was also working towards improving workers’ welfare through initiatives such as car and housing loan schemes.

Other members of the delegation included Dr Deji Akinwolere, Chief Bode Adebiyi, Mrs Julie Fayehun, Mr Idowu Orimoloye and Mr Layiwola Ibukun.
