Sunshine Stars Beat FC EFCC, Qualify For FA cup Quarter Final

Sunshine stars FC are through to the Quarter final of the FA cup following a 3-2 win over FC EFCC at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin City.

Both sides started slowly with few chances created but the elite team held possession for most part of the first 30 minutes

Sunshine Stars first goal came 5 minutes after a water break in the 42minutes.

Samson Olasupo calmly controls the ball with his chest, swiftly turns , striking past EFCC’s goalkeeper .

Sunshine stars took the lead in the the first half break.

At resumption into the second half the NNL side pushed a bit but were resisted by Sunshine stars defence line .

In the 49th minute , goal sensation, David Onovo came close to adding a second for Sunshine Stars but his header went wide .

Another chance came begging in the 58 minutes, this time Michael Olalusi drives a low short at the vital area but the ball hits the upright and sails .

In the 67 minutes David Onovo was booked for an unruly behavior as Sunshine Stars mounted to add another goal .

Sunshine Stars Gaffer, Edith Agoye introduced the duo of jide Jimoh and Cletus Emotan in the 71 minutes to replace Samson Olasupo and Michael Olalusi respectively.

The substitution immediately yielded as Jide Jimoh scores Sunshine stars second goal in an interesting fashion , the striker disposes a defender outside the 18 yards box raced into the area , picks his angle and nets calmly in the 82nd minutes.

FC EFCC however pulled a consolation 120 seconds later, immediately Agoye introduced promise Awosanmi and lucky Gyang as the two attackers replaces Stephen Chukwudi and David Onovo.

In the 89 minutes reliable defender Emmanuel Ogbuagu nets via a free kick outside the box to the admiration of football fans at the stadium.

Drama however ensued in the 90 minutes when lanky defender Udom Ekerette got fouled by a Midfielder but the player’s reaction thereafter was tagged unprofessional as the center referee issued a second yellow card and sent him off.

Edith Agoye quickly introduced uzoechi Ejike who replaced Midfield maestro Achi Nnaemeka in the 92nd minutes.

FC EFCC however took advantage of a school boy error in Sunshine Stars defence to score a second goal in the 93 minutes.

The match however ended 3-2 in favor of Sunshine stars, thus earning the team a quarter final ticket in the FA cup

Edith Agoye in his post match commended his opponent for a good fight, he emphasized that errors observed will be corrected promptly to avoid a re occurrence.

” It’s a good game , we are through to the Quarter finals , it’s good for us ahead of future challenges , it’s gonna boost our confidence”
