SWAN Forces OSYN To 1-1 Draw In Friendly Tie

The Ondo State Youth Network (OSYN) and the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ondo State Chapter, played out an entertaining 1–1 draw in a friendly football match held at the Aquinas College Football Pitch, Akure.

The exhibition match, organised to foster unity and collaboration between youth stakeholders and the media community in Ondo State, lived up to expectations with moments of flair, resilience, and competitive energy from both teams.

OSYN drew first blood early in the game, capitalizing on a goalmouth scramble that saw the ball deflect past the SWAN goalkeeper, sending OSYN supporters into wild celebration.

However, just before the halftime whistle, a foul in the OSYN penalty area offered SWAN a lifeline. The resulting spot kick was calmly converted, restoring parity at 1–1 before the break.

The second half remained lively, with SWAN pushing hard for a winner. Despite creating two clear-cut chances, the journalists were unable to find the back of the net as OSYN’s defense stood resolute.

The match ultimately ended in a 1–1 stalemate, much to the delight of the spectators.

Speaking after the game, the Chairman of SWAN, Mr. Segun Giwa, lauded both teams for their display of skill, sportsmanship, and mutual respect.

“This match goes beyond football,” Giwa said. “It’s a platform for building partnerships, encouraging youth engagement, and enhancing social bonding through sports.”

The event attracted members of the youth network, sports journalists, and football enthusiasts, all of whom commended the initiative and advocated for more community-driven sporting events across the state.

In his remarks, OSYN’s coach, Comrade Gbenga Ajongbolo, applauded the SWAN team for a spirited performance, noting that his team remains unbeaten in their meetings with SWAN.

He confidently declared: “We will be aiming to seal the series victory in the third leg of this novelty match, which will be announced soon.”

The friendly served not only as a showcase of footballing talent but also as a reminder of the unifying power of sports in driving positive social change and community development.
