In a bid to build a strong and capable workforce, the Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa has inaugurated a two-week induction programme for 165 newly recruited staff of the State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS).
The Governor while addressing the newly recruited staff at the ODIRS Learning Centre in Akure the state capital, urged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and responsibility in their work.
Aiyedatiwa said: “Since the beginning of our administration, I have placed a special emphasis on public service because in any economy and clime, it remains the engine room of government and should attract the “best and brightest’’ that will fuel policies with fresh ideas.”
“These individuals represent the best and brightest who will contribute fresh ideas and dedication to our mission of serving the people of Ondo State, ” he stated.
According to him, “the recruitment process, which saw 13,292 CVs submitted, culminated in rigorous evaluations, including a Computer Based Test (CBT) and an Oral Interview stage coordinated by Pricewaterhousecoopers (PWC).
“Out of the 734 candidates who reached the final stage, 165 emerged successful.
Aiyedatiwa stressed the significance of their role in ensuring economic growth and development in the state through efficient tax collection and revenue generation.
He emphasised on the importance of continuous learning and professional development in the field of taxation, encouraging the new employees to seize opportunities for training and skill enhancement.
“Innovation and creativity will be key in our approach to revenue generation. As we embrace new technologies and methodologies, let us ensure fairness and equity in our tax policies”, he said.
Governor Aiyedatiwa extended his warmest congratulations to the newly recruited staff, heralding the beginning of an exciting and rewarding journey towards serving the people of Ondo State.
The induction programme, spanning two weeks, will provide the new employees with essential training and orientation to equip them for their roles within the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of Ondo State Internal Revenue Service, Dr. Tolu Adegbie said the organization is committed to upholding the vision to generate optimal revenue in an efficient and professional manner for the development of the state.
He charged the new recruits to embrace their roles with enthusiasm, emphasizing the importance of transparency and professionalism in their duties, saying Internal Revenue Service is integral to the socio-economic development of Ondo state.
He said: “Ondo State Internal Revenue Service has grown the revenue systematically from annual average of the N10.0billion in 2017 to N40.0billion by 2023, a 300% revenue growth, attributing this success to the focused efforts of the organization.”
He said plans are underway to deploy the new staff across ODIRS offices in the 18 local government areas of the state.
In his remarks, the state Head of Service , Mr Bayo Philips, emphasized the importance of adhering to rules and regulations in the public service.
He stressed the significance of integrity and ethical conduct, stating that delivering quality work in a timely manner is paramount.
Philips highlighted the existence of a reward system in the public service but stressed that adherence to rules and regulations precedes any form of recognition.
He emphasized the necessity of upholding the ethics of the job and avoiding any compromises that could compromise the integrity of the service.
Among those who graced the occasion included, Deputy governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, Secretary to the State Government, Tayo Oluwatuyi, Chief of staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa, Commissioner for information, Mr Wale Akinlosotu among others.
