The Ondo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the fight against gender-based violence (GBV), with a pledge to provide greater support for the Ondo State Agency Against Gender-Based Violence (OSAAG-BV).

The State Head of Service, Chief Segun Odusanya, gave the assurance while receiving a delegation from the agency in his office in Akure.
Odusanya described gender-based violence as a major societal challenge that must be confronted decisively if meaningful development is to be achieved.

“The scourge of gender-based violence is a war that must be fought frontally for meaningful development to be achieved in any sane society,” he said.
He stressed that the agency plays a critical role in creating a peaceful environment where development can thrive, adding that the state government would continue to sustain its activities and provide the necessary support.
The Head of Service said the government would address challenges affecting the agency’s operations, including the provision of office accommodation, shelter for survivors, furniture and operational vehicles.
“Gender violence is happening everywhere. It is one of the commonest problems around and we must continue to find something to do about it,” Odusanya said.
He further assured the delegation that his office would collaborate with the agency to secure suitable accommodation to enhance its effectiveness.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of OSAAG-BV, Mrs Bolanle Afolabi, appealed for increased government support, including the establishment of a Sexual Assault Referral (SAR) Centre, shelters for survivors of abuse and operational vehicles.
Afolabi expressed confidence that the agency would effectively deliver on its mandate with the provision of the requested facilities and logistical support.
