The Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Hon. Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye has congratulated the immediate past captain of Sunshine Stars,Abe Sunday on his retirement.
Sunday had earlier on Wednesday announced his retirement from active football.
Yusuf-Ogunleye said the role played by Sunday in Sunshine Stars could not be over emphasized as he helped maintain stability and a leader figure in the team.
The commissioner appreciated all the efforts put into the team by the retired skipper and for being a good ambassador of the country’s elite league year in, year out for about two decades.
“The role played by Abe Sunday as the then captain of Sunshine Stars by ensuring that the team didn’t go on relegation last season can not be easily forgotten most especially the ‘Gombe experience’.
“We wish him better days ahead as he begins another journey of his life,” he said.
Yusuf-Ogunleye later said the state would celebrate Sunday as a worthy ambassador of the state having served Sunshine Stars for about two decades.
